Old River-Winfree, Texas is a town heaped in History and Tradition.  Founder’s Day will be held annually to commemorate and celebrate the founding of our community, to promote cooperation and volunteerism in the community, generate community spirit and recreation, and enhance the economic welfare of the town.  By attending our Family Driven event, you will be a part of history as this is our 1st Annual Founder’s Day on July 24 - 26, 2009.

As our first year in celebration, we have loads of events that are sure to please every member of the family.

SATURDAY July 18, 2009 is the Founders Day Costume Ball.  Learn to dance as they did in the 1800's!  Great Family event!!

FRIDAY July 24, 2009 Scheduled is a boat parade where decorated boats will be judge.  Around 6:00 p.m. Boat owners are invited to decorate their boats, unload in the water, and at a certain gathering point of the Old River, pass for review for awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place.

SATURDAY, July 25, 2009 is the regular schedule of events.

SUNDAY, July 26, 2009 church at the fairgrounds at 10:00 a.m. and then the Fairgrounds open again at 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

For instance, the Founder’s Day 5K and 3K Run/Walk will start the day off.  This year we are benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project in loving memory of Pfc Wesley R. Riggs.

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) was founded on the principle that veterans are our nation's greatest citizens. The WWP seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations around the world. Many of the injuries are traumatic amputations, gunshot wounds, burns and blast injuries that will retire these brave warriors from military service. 

Little Miss Old River-Winfree is a pageant for little girls from the age of 6 years old and under.  If you have an immediate family relative that lives in Old River-Winfree, you may participate.  This can be grandmother, aunt, uncle, sister, brother.  The judges are from out of town, so the judging is entirely impartial.  No little girl will be left out, so you if you need a sponsor call 281-576-5356.

The Dog Parade will be a fun event for all ages.  Our “best friends” will be judged on a variety of things, such as “prettiest”, “ugliest”, “best dressed”, and so on.  Copies of up-to-date vaccination certificate must accompany registration. 

The Vintage Cake and Pie Bakeoff is sure to be a crowd pleaser.  Recipes that have been passed down in your family are preferred, but not mandatory.

Duck Calling Contest is also being organized!  Sponsored and hosted by Texas Feed Stop this event will bring out Sportsman from around Texas and Louisiana!

Old River-Winfree will soon sponsor a low-cost vaccination drive at our City Community Building. 

Antique Car, Truck, and a separate motorcycle judging will take place for all the Fabulous Cars, Trucks, and Motorcycles we love so much.

Marks Mobile Music will provide 50's and 60's music the day of the event to enhance the Antique Vehicle Show and the events at the Fairgrounds.

Coast Guard Helicopter will be landing at Old River Baptist Church for the Opening Ceremonies and the South East Texas Patriot Guard will be coming with a "Rumble" to salute the men and women in uniform and those who have been injured OR have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Old River-Winfree Fire Department will be participating in the Old River-Winfree Founders Day.  They will have their fabulous, well-maintained equipment out to show the kids how they stand ready in the event of an emergency in our community.

Old River-Winfree City Police, Officer Ben Garcia, will be on hand for the kids with "fingerprinting".

The events are not all listed as we are still confirming an air show, military HumVee, Chambers County Sheriff’s Department Boat, and more.
