BOB WHEAT INDUCTED INTO TEXAS NAVY

During a regular meeting of the Chambers County Historical Commission on September 26th, Chair Bob Wheat was surprised to be awarded the rank of Admiral in the Texas Navy by a Proclamation signed by Governor Rick Perry.  The honor was bestowed by Admiral James B. Sterling, III, who is likewise a Texas Navy Admiral and an ex-officio member of the Commission.

Prior to the presentation, the Commission heard committee reports from the various committee chairs and discussed upcoming events for the Commission.  A ghost watch will be conducted on October 30th at the Thomas Jefferson Chambers Home.  This event coincides with the Halloween program that will be conducted at the County Library in Anahuac.

The Commission also discussed the upcoming Christmas Toy Drive that will be held on the first and second Saturdays in December.  The drive will also be held at the Chambers Home and toys that are collected are distributed to needy families in the County.  The Chambers Home will be decorated and refreshments will be served on these two Saturdays.  The public is urged to support this worthwhile project.

The St. Emily United Methodist Church in Old River will be celebrating its 128th Anniversary on October 11th.  The celebration program will begin at 3:00 pm at the church located on FM 565 in Old River.

The Historical Commission meets at 9:00 am on the fourth Saturday of each month in the Historical Museum/Archives Building and the public is welcome to attend
