Severe Weather
Slight Risk for Severe storms late tonight into
Friday morning with Hail and Damaging Straight Line Winds...front then
stalls at coast with 1 inch average and isolated 2 to 4 inch heavy rains
through Sunday.
During a regular meeting of the
Chambers County Historical Commission on September 26th,
Chair Bob Wheat was surprised to be awarded the rank of Admiral in the
Texas Navy by a Proclamation signed by Governor Rick Perry.The honor was bestowed by Admiral James B. Sterling, III, who is
likewise a Texas Navy Admiral and an ex-officio member of the
Commission.
Prior to the presentation, the
Commission heard committee reports from the various committee chairs and
discussed upcoming events for the Commission.A ghost watch will be conducted on October 30th at the
Thomas Jefferson Chambers Home.This event coincides with the Halloween program that will be
conducted at the CountyLibrary in Anahuac.
The Commission also discussed the upcoming
Christmas Toy Drive that will be held on the first and second Saturdays
in December.The drive will
also be held at the Chambers Home and toys that are collected are
distributed to needy families in the County.The Chambers Home will be decorated and refreshments will be
served on these two Saturdays.The public is urged to support this worthwhile project.
The St. Emily United Methodist Church in
OldRiver will be celebrating its 128th
Anniversary on October 11th.The celebration program will begin at
3:00 pm at the church located on FM 565 in
OldRiver.
The Historical Commission meets at
9:00 am on the fourth Saturday of each month in the Historical
Museum/Archives Building and the public is welcome to attend
