Pictures from "Line the Streets"
I didn't know Sheriff's Deputy Detwiler, but I know our Sheriff.
We are a close knit County made up of hard working people, hard working
elected officials, hard working Volunteer Fire Departments, and a hard
working Sheriff's Department.
Knowing Sheriff Joe LaRive, he is very particular about who he hires and
Deputy Shane Detwiler must have been quite a young man.
We mourn for our Sheriff's Department and we mourn for Chambers County.
But as a man of God, I am sure Shane would not want us to dwell on the
loss of decent, good life, but to remember that every day any law
enforcement official puts on his or her uniform and goes out to protect
the citizens of his or her town or county, they risk their life.
Remember our Firefighters and law enforcement officials and remember to
say "Thank You" when you see one, just as you would our Military.
They also put their lives on the line every time they answer the call to
"Protect and Serve".
This Day a Man Was Laid to Rest.
But you see, this was
not just any man!
This man was first and
foremost a man of God. He was a devoted Father and Husband.
He was an all around "Good Guy"
This man served.
First, he served his
country. He was a decorated Veteran of the Iraq War.
Second, he
served Texas. For six (6) years he served in the
Wildlife and Fisheries Department as a Game Warden.
Third, and sadly, last,
he served his county as a Chambers County Sheriff's Deputy.
Yes, a man WAS laid to
rest today, but his service to his Country, Texas, and Chambers County
will never be forgotten.
Sheriff's Deputy Shane
Detwiler, thanks for your service!
***********************************************************************************
The Angels Sang Today for
Deputy Detwiler.................but you see, they sang for our benefit,
not Shane's, because Shane was welcomed home by Jesus, in my humble opinion
and my belief,
before the first bullet even hit his earthly body.
Shane is home.

during that time.
Show of Respect - A group of
citizens are joining to line the route from
Maranatha Temple to Earthman Memory Gardens.

Garth Road. Should you join them, please note: "As
the car bearing Deputy Detwiler's body approaches
and passes, hands over hearts if in civilian clothes
and salute if in a uniform. Make sure NO ONE gets
near the road. -Escorting a procession is very
dangerous for the motor officers. People getting in
the way or even partially blocking the roadway can
cause cars in the procession to swerve, making it
even more dangerous for everyone. Please help to
make sure we don't have another officer down trying
to lay our Deputy to rest."
Barbers Hill Lions Club - will display their
American flags along Eagle Drive to honor Deputy

The Chambers County Sheriff's Department will
provide a meal for the many law enforcement officers
expected to attend Deputy Detwiler's funeral. They
will gather at Barbers Hill High School following
the services; estimates vary from 800 to 2,000
officers from across the nation will be in Mont
Belvieu to pay their respects. This meal is a small
way to show those who have chosen a career to serve
and protect us how much we appreciate the sacrifices
they have made.
A few additional volunteers are needed to keep the
serving line stocked with food and all help is
welcome to help clean up, perhaps around 2:30 PM.

From
hotpursuit.cc, a Baytown online Community
News Source. This is a e-mail message I
received this morning from them.
As much as I
personally love our Military, First
Responders, and as you know if you know
me, Chambers County Sheriff's
Department, I will be on Garth Road
Friday Morning.
Will you? Need a
ride, call me at 281-576-5356 or if
anyone wants to take a bus or van, let
me know.
Here is the
Message:
I think it would be a great showing of support
and respect if we were to line the streets for
Deputy Detwiler's procession. Since there's not
a set time, I'd guess lining up around 10:30AM
on Friday would work. His service begins at
10AM on Friday morning (7-17-2009).
There's lots of room along Garth Rd in the area
of Dr. Buck's office, Victoria Walker
Elementary, Springfield, Eastpoint and Preston
Place. Be sure to stay out of the roadway and
an umbrella/shade/water might be a good idea.
If you have a flag, fly it with pride.
We have over 2000 members here and they all have
friends. Pass this along.
Quoting The Fuzz:
The course will be from the Maranatha Temple,
South on Hwy 146 to I-10. West on I-10 to Garth
Rd. North on Garth Rd. to Memory Gardens.
If you wish to line the streets for Deputy
Detwiler, I would suggest doing it on Garth Rd.
There are plenty of parking lots and side
streets to park on and I think this would have
the biggest impact on the family if it is full
of people as far down the road as possible. You
could even line the I-10 feeder from the exit
down to Garth. Flags would be appropriate to
display. As the body car approaches and passes,
hands over hearts if in civilian clothes and
salutes if in a uniform.
Make sure NO ONE gets near the road and stay out
of the street. Escorting a procession is very
dangerous for the motor officers and if there
are people getting in the way or otherwise
blocking the road which may make cars in the
procession have to swerve, it makes it even more
dangerous for them. Let's make sure we don't
have another officer down trying to lay our
Deputy to rest. |

The street banner is up!!!! YEAH!! Can you believe Old
River-Winfree has a street banner? Thanks to the Chambers County
Commissioner's Court granting us advertising funds way back in the
summer of last year! God Bless each of the Commissioner's, Gary
Nelson (our Commissioner) and Judge Jimmy Sylvia for having faith in us!
Myron Broussard with Texas Department of Transportation helped
so much with the permit and made it an easier process, too!!!
We tried calling everyone from SuddenLink, Centerpoint Energy, all the
Chamber of Commerce's in the area, everyone we could think of.
Tracy at West Chambers County Chamber of Commerce was on the phone, too
trying to locate a cable company to do this for us.
After a couple of conversations with Centerpoint Energy, Jim Darnell's
counterparts with our District Office in Baytown gave the go ahead to
install our street banner. They really don't do that anymore, but
when you tell the story of Old River-Winfree, it's hard to resist and
Centerpoint IS community minded.
Anyway, after more conversations on how, when, where and such, a crew
of 8 men, maybe 9, came out today and got our banner! Yoohoo!!
Linda Murphy, our city secretary was so excited that she was driving
back home to get her camera as I was on my way out the door to go to
City Hall and take pictures.
Linda Murphy is the best City Secretary around as she really loves this
town even though she doesn't live here. Her dedication and concern
for our town is unprecedented in any other City Office, bar none!

Our City Secretary, Linda Murphy and Mr. Dugat of Centerpoint
Energy!
